You are in a room in a building. There are only two rooms in the building, and there are no windows in either room. The room you are in has three switches, which operate three light bulbs in the other room.

You need to deduce which switch operates which light bulb. You may only enter the other room once. How is this possible?


Turn the first switch on. Leave it for a period of time (for example thirty minutes). Turn the first switch off.

Then, turn the second switch on, and leave the third switch off. Go into the other room now.

The light bulb that is on is operated by the second switch. Touch the two bulbs that are off. One of them will be warmer than the other. The warmer one is operated by the first switch, and the cooler one is operated by the third switch.

  - Only the father, the mother and the policeman know how to operate
the raft.
