Bigger? You think?
Bigger than the ones I'm referring to.
fester? You are letting it fester in your mind.
Nothing is festering in my mind. Do you go out on the street and
tell marchers and protesters that they shouldn't let things fester
in their mind ? I don't treat it as that big a deal - I'm not
marching on the capital.
Sure put out the campfire in the middle of a forest fire first...
You mean put out the campfire in the forest or there could be a
forest fire.
If I do not like government mixed with my basketball should I be
offended when they play the nation anthem?
I'm not sure - is it festering your mind ? I personnally don't
tightly associate 'government' and the national anthem. Govt
doesn't require the national anthem to be played at games.
So no city decorations, no singing silent night in the park...
No religious ones - there are plenty of places that religious ones
can be erected.
Not half as bad as a war criminal on the twenty...
I'm not that big on differentiating the size of wrongs - but if you
like. In terms of religion, a sin is a sin (unless your RCC).
It is the religious organizations the constitution separated from
the government... the idea a group of humans with a religious agenda
should control our lives and choices of religion by law...it was not
the concept of a god that was separated. Not only is that fairly
clear in the history and writings, it has been confirmed as the
intent by several SCOTUS decisions.
And you don't think a group of humans with religious agendas are
controlling
our lives ? Tell that to the gays, non-christians, etc.
I am a non-Christian, and I have many gay friends, one of whom I
discussed this very subject with the other day. It's not a given that
everyone on the left would agree with you. Liberals don't agree on
much after all. But lemme say it anyway: no, I don't think my life
is controlled in any way by any religious agenda. Furthermore, I
don't believe that gay and lesbian civil rights are suppressed simply
because of the existence of religion. We're a long way from the
likes of the Taliban or Iran when it comes to this. Now that said, I
definitely agree with you that 'certain' evangelical groups fund and
advertise a message of hate. Guess what? I've seen similar hate
messages spewed here in this very newsgroup by so-called liberal. Any of these folks should be ridiculed whenever given the
opportunity. But I'm not going to let them effect that quality of my
life, and I know that's true of my gay friends as well. The truth is
that civil rights can not be denied for the gay community. Even the
young evangelical kids are far more open to the idea of homosexual
partnerships than their parents. It's not a matter of 'if;' it's a
matter of 'when.'

Why all the hate? ;-)
