Maybe some day Bozo will learn that "thunder" is the *sound* of
lightening.
Brain cellz are melting as we speak...
-JC
that crackling sure sounds like electrical discharge to me...call
it what you want...
It's called "thunder."
Look up the definition.
-JC
I understand what it's called...I think of thunder as a boom in the
distance....no need to worry...too far away...that crackling means
the roof might come down...
some of the crack came from the telephone poles that would get
hit...a real sight to see a transformer on a pole get struck about
100 feet away...high power lines dancing around in 3 feet of water
and the traffic lights still working.
the vacuum left by the lightning. Lightning "bolts" are very hot, up
to 60,000 degrees F. When they pass, the air is superheated and
expands. Afterwards, there is a vacuum left as the air contracts. The
rumbling, booming sound of thunder is the air getting "sucked" back
(I put "sucked" in quotes because, as we all know, there is no such
thing as suction - but we can leave that for another thread).
Thunder is *NOT* the sound of the lightning itself. The lightning
*DOES* make a sound like an electrical discharge which you can hear
if you are close enough to it. It is more a sizzle sound - like what
you hear from a spark-gap.
which is exactly what i described yesterday...
now lets see who do i believe, branden or the stalking nut-job???
sorry b, the stalking nut-job will surely be right behind you any
minute to tell you just how wrong you are... that being the case,
im still going to have to go with your explanation... :-)
websites out there. I think the NWS has a site that talks all about
thunder and lightning. But then, maybe he won't trust "the gubmint."
