Wow!. Here's something I never thought I'd read ... Simmons, the ultimate Celtics homer, predicting the Lakers win the Finals.
Maybe he's just trying a reverse jinx (which he swears he's not), but spooky to read none the less.
Just sounds like the typical "po' downtrodden us" against the "flashy, sleek, Hollywood, and oh so much better, Lakers". Adds to
the "us against the world" posture the Celts are jockeying for.
Simmons is going strictly from gut feeling. Its all about "this just seems like their year" type stuff. There is no serious
analysis of match-ups or strategies. I won't say he is trying to apply the whammy, but he is using a personal psychological ploy I
have used before, most recentely during the Spurs series, and will use again. Simmons is getting himself into a frame of mind that
will be able to handle defeat, should it come, without acting on suicidal thoughts, while at the same time hoping against all hope
for victory.
Add a dollop of "if we play right, we will win", and you have one of my own tried and true psychological plans of actions before a
huge series against a formidable opponent.
His take on the fans at Staples I thought was interesting. That they're "real fans" (not just corporate types, stars and wannabes)
knowlegeble, loyal, AND affluent enough to afford tickets, is a theory on Staples fans I don't think I've ever heard before.
Greg
i have a hard time trying to figure out why people didnt think the lakers were
going to take the shams as easily as they did...
the shams are ancient... they got over on new orleans because those kids cracked
under pressure... no such luck for the shams with kobe... that last game was a
thing of beauty... shut down the triangle and see if kobe is a superstar or not...
he is... same thing with with boston... they have three great basketball players...
but on this level, they dont have a guy who can get to the rack and score at
will... the lakers have enough in odom, fisher, gasol, and rad to keep a team
close enough until it is time for the mamba to strike... and other than posey,
are bench is killing theirs...
i cant figure out if this is going to go 4-0 or 4-1... i see perkins trying to play
that same kind of defense he played in the pistons series and picking up a gang
of fouls early in every game... pau is just to slippery and fluid imo...
