Well, maybe Dallas did. I don't think Phoenix did. Marion wasn't going to
be resigned and Shaq's contract expires in only two years. He looks like
he'll be able to play pretty well next year, so they really only gave up
a year of their future. The contracts of Shaq and Nash both expire in
2010 which is also the year Stoudemire can opt out. In fact, the Suns
only have 3 guys signed longer term than that: Alando Tucker, Barbosa,
and Boris Diaw. I think the Suns will rebuild pretty quickly to be honest
with you. They are a well-managed team.
The same is true of Dallas as far as the salary cap is concerned. Kidd
will be a free agent and only Stackouse, Dampier, Howard, and Nowiztki
are signed long-term. They should be able to add another piece to replace
Kidd. What they did that was stupid was trade away picks. Two of them.
That's why they aren't as well-managed as Phoenix.
