Re: OT - Ping Laurel

Seriously, wadda I know? ('Though I know more than Chris Matthews and
Howard Fineman. My god, watching those shows is like a rerun of "Night
of the Living Dead".)

As the old saying goes: "The Genie is out of the bottle and you can't
put it back inside." Barack Obama has arrived. As a potential nominee,
he now has (at least) as much credibility and believability as does
HRC. He is a man with no past(in the political or mythic sense). While
her past -- even for her supporters -- is a mixed one. Mixed, all the
way to absolute loathing. You don't need Karl Rove's koolaide to know
that at least 40% of voters will never vote her. NEVER. No matter her
opposition, no matter the state of the country. If you don't admit
that, then you are the one drinking some koolaide. People already have
their minds made up about her, as person. She is the most divisive
national candidate since Richard Nixon, besides GWB. How much of the
country would you say will NEVER vote for Obama, not matter what? 10%,
20%. And those are just race haters -- they're not making a fixed
forever judgement about his person.

Norman Mailer wrote a lot about how since Kennedy(or is it since
Roosevelt?) that the President of the United State is the leading
character in our daily national drama. And that is the Genie that's
now out of the bottle. Right now, that choice is between Denzel
Washington and Glenn Close. Beyond now, between Denzel and Jon Voigt
in "Mission Impossible". And because of the terrible criminality and
resulting deep shame of the past 8 years, I think the country has
never been so hungry for a radical leap of faith as it now is.

Barbara Ehrenreich has a beautiful piece about that today:

Obviously, HRC will win some more primaries, because of her machine
and because she's the kind of drone that always had to get an A in
everything in high school. (My high school twit's name was Gary
Twiggs.) But Obama has the lead now and she ain't getting it back.
Anymore than the husband who's found the new office playmate goes back
to the frumpy wife.
