New push for military draft in US
by Barry Grey
6 September 2007

Timed to coincide with the reconvening of Congress and the renewal of
the fraudulent official "debate" on the Iraq war, Time magazine has
published an edition with a cover story entitled "The Case for
National Service."

The problem with this theory is that reinstituting a draft is political
suicide. At least 70% of Americans want the US out of IRaq yesterday and
they tried to make that happen by voting Dem last year. Didn't work.
Americans are pissed off. If congress passed a draft, every single
member would be voted out as soon as their seat was up. The only way
this happens is if there is a massive "terrorist" attack on the US,
martial law is declared, including a draft, and all elections
indefinitely postponed. Do you think that would fly? I think their
allegiance to the NRA and love the second amendment would come back to
bite the repubs on the ass.

Also problematic is Rangel's theory that a draft would be
egalitarian, thus the wealthy and privileged would be averse
to military adventures. The reality is that the children of
wealth and privilege would be given a way out just as they
always have. But if a draft really would lead to widespread
political revolution of the common people, I'm for it
because drastic revolution now seems to be the only cure for
the twin follies of imperialism and absolute plutocracy that
the Power Elite now seek with brazen defiance of the will
of, and unabashed neglect of the best interests of, the
People.

Gotta give you props for humor...take the most successful and most moral
political, economic and social experiment in human history and you...call
for revolution. Real men of genius, Marx division.
