A daily glance inside the numbers from the world of sports:

NBA
.. The Mavericks beat the Bucks on Wednesday night, giving Dallas 46 wins
in its last 50 games. Only one other team in NBA history won at least 46
times in a 50-game span within one season: the 1966-67 Philadelphia
76ers, who began that season with a 46-4 record.

.. Michael Redd had 34 points in the first three quarters but was held
scoreless in the fourth quarter in the Bucks' 105-103 loss. Kobe Bryant
is the only other NBA player to score 34 or more points in a game this
season, all before the fourth quarter. Kobe's done that three times, but
in each case the Lakers won by at least 10 points and his fourth-quarter
scoring was not needed.

.. Andre Iguodala had 26 points, 15 assists and seven rebounds in
Philadelphia's loss at Washington. The last 76ers player to reach all
three of those statistical levels in one game was Wilt Chamberlain, who
had 31 points, 15 assists and 21 rebounds against the San Diego Rockets
on March 5, 1968.

.. DeShawn Stevenson led all scorers with 28 points in Washington's
victory. It was the first time that Stevenson scored the most points by
any player for either side in a game that his team won since Jan. 10,
2004, when he tallied 17 points for Utah.

.. Twenty-one-year-old Josh Smith had 25 points, 15 rebounds and six
blocked shots for Atlanta on Wednesday night. Since 1973, when the NBA
began recording blocked shots for individuals, only one player younger
than Smith had at least 25 points, 15 rebounds and five blocked shots in
one game: Shaquille O'Neal, who did that five different times during the
1992-93 season.

.. Paul Pierce made late game-tying field goals at the end of the fourth
quarter and at the end of the first overtime in Boston's double-OT
victory against Orlando. He's the first NBA player to force overtime and
then double-overtime with game-tying baskets with less than 20 seconds
remaining since Pau Gasol did that for Memphis on Dec. 19, 2005, vs.
Detroit.

.. Josh Boone scored a game-high 22 points in the Nets' win over the
Pacers. Boone was 11-for-13 (.846) on field goals but 0-for-4 from the
foul line. It was the first time in 35 years that an NBA player made
more than 80 percent of his field-goal attempts in a game on at least 10
attempts, while missing all of his free throws on at least four
attempts. The last player to do that was Philadelphia's Fred Carter on
Feb. 11, 1972 at Portland (13-for-15 from the field, 0-for-4 from the
line).

.. LeBron James was 6-for-20 (.300) from the field in Cleveland's loss to
the Knicks. It was LeBron's lowest field-goal percentage in any of the
62 games this season in which he attempted at least 15 shots.

.. For the second time in less than a week, a bad first quarter doomed
the Heat on the road. Last Friday, Miami trailed Indiana 33-9 at the end
of the first period, on the way to a 95-70 loss. On Wednesday, the Heat
fell behind 31-15 after one quarter, before losing at Toronto 96-83.
Those are the only two games that Shaquille O'Neal has played in his
three seasons with Miami in which the Heat allowed at least 30 points
and scored no more than 15 in the first quarter.

.. The Spurs overcame a 12-point deficit in the second half to beat the
Hornets 92-88. It was the sixth time this season that San Antonio won a
game after trailing by at least 10 points after half time, but it was
the team's first of those six victories at home. The Spurs had only one
comeback win of that type -- home or road -- all of last season.

.. Tim Duncan, who had missed all eight of his 3-point field-goal
attempts this season, finally made one on Wednesday night. That leaves
Ronnie Brewer and Anderson Varejao as the players who have attempted the
most shots from downtown this season without a conversion (each is
0-for-8).

.. Denver led 35-32 at the end of the first quarter, but lost to Seattle
100-97. It marked only the second time since the team joined the NBA
that the Nuggets scored 35 or more points at home in the first quarter
and then failed to reach 100 points in the game. The other game was a
97-91 loss to Portland on April 5, 1996, in which the Nuggets scored 39
points in the opening period.
