malone was just a role player....

Because he's not exerting the kind of energy Kobe did in Game 1 to
dominate Hamilton. In Game 2, they moved him off Hamilton and he had a
better offensive game. The rest of the series he just sucked offensively,
without excuse. Defensively, it's just a shame there weren't two of him
to guard both Hamilton and Billups.

But all in all, that was one bad series for him, against a career of
excellent playoff performances. We might not even be talking about it if
Malone had not gotten injured, which was the biggest reason the Lakers
lost.
