Well, ya got a name ?
I won't argue that it is an annoying thing, but again, HAL in Windows is
designed differently from UNIX abstraction layers.
So redesign dammit - you shouldn't have to boot a computer weekly. Make
the drivers and apps unloadable/restartable. First you fix delete so you
can delete the current driver and install a new one, then you unlead and
reload the driver and bingo, you're back up and running.
What team?
There is no team.
That is part of the competition.
The team of Microsloth developers and all of us Windoze users.
I actually like the registry, although not bullet proof, but less
headaches than searching the entire freaking /usr/lib/, /usr/local/lib
for conflicts when installing.
I don't mind the concept all that much, just the way it's done.
Firstly I would make a registry for each user and put it in their
/home/user directory tree. The current registry would then be
limited to OS and hardware only items. Then I would come up with
a scheme that would allow for the moving of any app from one disk
to another that automatically adjusts the registry. Or even better,
don't use disks per se, add / as the base path (like UNIX) and allow
mounting of any disk on any /dir. That way you could use more generic
paths than C:/..., D:/..., etc. (/Programs, /Utilities, etc).
I could go on and on.
