Interesting. At least the Yanks will get a pick for Vizcaino now.

That's SG from RLYW's point as well. Linebrink got nearly 20mil for
4yrs. Riske (3yr 13mil) and Mahay are going to get lucrative deals.
You might as well roll the dice with Hawkins at one year 3.5mil and a
second rounder than give Viz 3yr 13-14mil. I think the Yanks expect
Mark Melancon to be ready to compete in March. At the time of the
draft, most observers felt he wouldn't need much time to make it to
the show once he recovers from the elbow injury. We'll have to see,
but I think someone will emerge unexpectedly in the bullpen as you
also have Cox and Humberto Sanchez who would be under innings
restriction as he's recovering from TJ surgery. I'm really curious to
see what unfolds in the bullpen. As you know, I've been begging for
the team to start breaking in pitchers from the bullpen. Perhaps that
is going to be the thinking once Horne, Marquez and McCutcheon get
their feet wet in SWB and demonstrate effectiveness. I always felt
they should've considered moving Steven White into the bullpen due to
his stuff and they may just do that this year due to the overcrowding
in SWB

I don't think Hawkins is all that impressive, and Vizcaino is the
better pitcher, but I prefer the shorter commitment and smaller deal.
They can't keep signing Karsay deals for veteran arms for the pen.
They have a lot of kids who can contribute in 2008 and 2009 in the
pen. They need to start using them.
