The Yankees could also have interest in left-hander Jonathan Sanchez. The
25-year-old was 1-5 with a 5.88 ERA
WTF ?
Why the hell would they be after a guy with numbers like that ??
They are after him for the same reason why the Giants don't want to give him
up: He has immense talent. Whether or not he ever harnesses all of the
talent he has, nobody knows; he's had his bouts of wildness throughout his
professional career. But the Yankees would be getting someone with a lot
of ability AND the ability to start if need be.
He is a little like Oliver Perez in that his pitching motion is a
little herky jerky (I'm referring to Perez in Pittsburgh before he
started to have problems). I think his stuff is better though as
Sanchez's 4 seamer has a lot of late life which is deadly as he's got
a real dead fish of a changeup. Someone brought up a point that it's
also possible the Twins like Sanchez a lot though. Perhaps by
grabbing him, the Yanks don't have to part with Phlop (although they
may have to give up IPK). One thing Cashman has always stressed is
that a teams knows its own prospects best. The Twins aren't going to
accept Hideki and his salary as there were stories about how they
didn't even want Cano as he's arbitration eligible. Why not try to
see if you could convert Hideki into Santana? Clearly there was a
huge debate internally on whether to include Phlop in the deal. This
way they get to eat their cake.- Hide quoted text -
Assuming they did get Sanchez for Matsui, I wouldn't be surprised if
it was Oakland they flipped him to, for Haren. I'm not high on
dealing for Haren, but I could see that happening.
