Thermos, you are missing my point. Right now, Beckett (In earlier
posts, I forgot the second t) is the greatest pitcher in baseball. Did
you watch the postseason? He was on fire. He simply dominated the great
hitters on the Angels, Indians, and Rockies teams. With the season on
the line, in Cleveland, he shut down a hot Indians team in Game 5. I am
not comparing Santana to Beckett over the last few years, or two years.
I am comparing their 2007 seasons. Beckett was the only 20 game winner.
He was also an unstoppable beast in the postseason. Carmona and
Sabathia of the Indians had a fantastic year, but they pushed the panic
button when the season was on the line. Just counting the regular
season, you could make a strong case that Sabathia had the better year.
That is why he won the Cy Young award. Some players have that intangible
quality within them. They can perform when everything is on the line.
This year, Wang couldn't do it. Clemens failed miserably. So did
Weaver, Lackey, and Jeff Francis of the Rockies. This is a topic that
can't even be debated. Sorry, but those are the facts.
