Does anyone buy that stuff? I'm not saying this as a Yankee fan, but a fan
of any team that wins the WC, do you buy shirts and hats about it?

I suspect most people wait to see if their team wins the WS, then buy WS
stuff. If they lose in the playoffs, maybe some people go back and buy
division winner gear, but certainly not WC gear.
