Perhaps, but I am pretty stubborn in this regard. :) You aren't going
to find many relief pitcher trades through the years that I was happy
with (unless acquired within a bigger deal - ie, Jeff Nelson). There
just doesn't seem to be enough of a reward in acquiring one. That
includes Dotel in Atlanta as well - unless they deal off Wickman for
something of value; then you are just replacing Wickman with Dotel.
But to give away a 23-year old pitcher who still has promise for a guy
like Dotel? I just don't see the reasoning and cannot agree with it.
If the Sox acquire Dye for what is being rumored, then THAT is
something that could lift them over Detroit or Cleveland as the AL
favorites, if they are not already the AL favorites.
not stubborn, just stupd. sparky lisle and gossage were both trade
aqusitions for the skanks. they worked out ok.
You must be thinking of some other Gossage, if you're thinking at
all. Rich Gossage, the pitcher most people know by that name, played
for the Yankees 2 different times. First he was signed as a free
agent and later in his career he was claimed off waivers. They never
traded for him. Beyond that inaccuracy, the anecdote does nothing to
refute Tom's assertion. Otherwise, another great point by Ray!
