He went 4-for-5 for Trenton today. For the season, he is now at .
283/.377/.406 with 14 steals in 18 tries. He is batting .417 in his
last ten games, and is at .417/.483/.542 in June.
He's a very much "high-energy" type of player that fans will probably
love to watch. Beyond that, he brings legit skills to the table.
If Damon is really hurting, you can DL him, promote Gardner, stick him
in center field and see what happens. I really don't think of this
as a terrible idea.
I wanted to promote Gardner last September and put him on the postseason
roster.
Well for comparison (not that Gardner has as much power but I'm merely
drawing one based on speed game and defense) take a look:
Br>ett Butler skipped AA before a season at AAA before making the
Show.
Juan Pierre had 4 games at AAA after AA season before his final
promotion.
Willie Wilson (one of my all time favorite non-NYY players) skipped
AAA.
Vince Coleman skipped AA before a full season at AAA and made it to
STL the
following season.
Rudy Law skipped AA.
I mean the list goes on and on for these speedy no power type players
who
skip a level at Brett's age. The Yanks are taking too much time IMHO
as his
speed is what makes him a worthwhile prospect (as fighter jocks always
say
speed is life). As long as he has good enough bat control (and given
the
decline in K
rate maybe there's something) to slap a pitch to the left side of the
field,
why not take a shot? This is less risky than what they tried with
Melky two
years ago (as Brett is older than Melky the first time) with little
downside
IMHO. I just don't see much upside with power with Brett. In fact
I'd
rather he doesn't try to hit for power (e.g., what had happened to
Steve
Stanley and Bubba who thought he had to hit for power to make the
Show).
By the way, Ian Kennedy was the hard luck loser for Trenton today (5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K)
Frigging stiff. Another run? Clearly the Eastern League has exposed
these
two frauds (Kennedy and Joba) for the suspects they are. Time for
Cashman
to dump them now before the rest of baseball find out how useless they
are.
No doubt for LOOGY's as you can never have enough at YS.
