You brought this kid to my attention when he was first promoted from
Tampa and I've seen him pitch here several times since and he really
is amazing so far. He misses bats and I think can be an asset on the
big club THIS year IMHO. The SWB's return for a home stand on Friday,
so hopefully I will see him pitch again and offer my impressions.
As always, thanks for the effort to put these reports together.
You're welcome.
What he did last year was amazing in it's own right, but I was a bit
skeptical - a kid they sign out of the Independent Leagues is probably
getting outs because he's too advanced for the young bats who are
facing him...that's what I figured, at least. But the momentum just
grew and grew this year...to the point where he was impossible to
ignore. The Yankees aren't ignoring him anymore either; Nardi says he
has issues commanding his fastball....which he'll obviously need to do
better in the majors. But he perhaps is the type of guy you can bring
up on July 15th, and have him go on a run before major leaguers catch
on to him; this is not to say that I think he will never have staying
power...:) He may be a true diamond in the rough.
