In any other park, Thompson's double probably would have been
an easy fly out. Can you imagine Yankee Stadium with something
called the "Green Monster"? I'd be embarrassed and humiliated.

Watch -- they'll be dumb enough to rebuild Fenway (what a stupid name
in itself) and build another Green Monster. The Red Sox (yet a third
unbelievably stupid name) just have zero sense of what's cool
and what's not. Even their colors are unbelievably nauseating.

The wall had a purpose when the park was constructed. I do think it
gives Fenway some real character that most new parks lack. The name has
historic meaning in Boston. I don't think they'll be rebuilding Fenway
anytime soon, so its a moot point.

We just disagree, I guess. That's not the kind of character
that I appreciate, but if you do, be my guest.
I'm curious to know though ... what would be the purpose
of that wall? Worse than the wall even being there (which I think
is a travesty of baseball) is the name which sounds like
some childish fascination with comic book villains.

The wall makes Fenway a travesty as much as the LA Coliseum.
Baseball is a game marked by otherwise exact dimensions and
otherwise perfect symmetry: 90 degree angles, 90 feet * 4,
60 feet 6 inches ... for example.

Uh-hunh. How far is it to right field in Yankee Stadium? How bout
Wrigley? Ebbets? Polo Grounds?

You know *** all about Baseball. Go watch football. It's got those
exact dimensions you're clamoring for.
