north, so we almost traded Mariano for (gag) Felix Fermin. Fermin was

My heart just skipped a beat reading that. Scary thought.
Not quite Ruth for a hundred grand....but, considering Mariano's place
in baseball (greatest RP of all time) and the run he anchored for the
Yanks, it would have been close to the Ruth deal in terms of being an
utter catastrophe. (of course, both situations ended up favoring the
Yanks). It would have dwarfed the Bagwell-for-Larry Andersen deal.
