I wonder if they checked his vision. That happened before with someone

I vaguely remember that as well - it's something else to look at, of course.
Maybe there's something to his groin injury (that is the only one that
I can recall other than when he came down with a flu bug that wiped out
half the team back in June). I remember that was the reason why he
bowed out of the HR derby. For me that would sort of match what Jeff
Albert was hypothesizing about Alex not being able to synchronize the
hip rotation as he did back in 2005. Plus, it would help explain why
his footwork has been so inconsistent all season long as far as I'm
concerned. As you know, without rest groin injuries can linger for a
long time. Since he couldn't afford to take a month off, maybe he just
tried to play through which led to all sorts of bad habits. I'm out of
ideas as far as trying to figure out what's wrong with him but that at
least seems tangible other than the easy psychological explanations
(some of which Alex put forth himself).
There's nothing really left to say. He's killing the Yankees, not only
with his horrid play but also with the daily soap opera that surrounds
him. With the amount of money they owe him (not the full deal - just
the Yankee part of it) the front office has to be scared as hell. He
can't hit a belt high 90 mph fastball and if a pitcher gets two
strikes on him he's a joke. He's turned into a nightmare. Here's my
latest trade idea. Send him to Houston. He'll hit 50 HR's a year in
that tiny park. They have Pettitte and Clemens coming off the books
this year and they'll need something to sell tickets in 207. We'll
take Oswalt, Lidge and Ensberg back...........
Well all this is academic exercise as I just don't think Alex will ok a
trade. Let's assume that the Rangers' subsidy isn't transferable and
set the salary at 27mil per.
Oswalt is arbitration eligible (last year before FA) and he made 11mil
last year so let's say 12 or 13 mil. (Did you know that Drayton McLane
gave Roy a bulldozer for winning game 6 of NLCS?) Lidge made 4mil last
year and is again arbitration eligible. Ensberg made 3.8mil and is
also arbitration bound. Money is probably even if we assume the usual
increases at the arbitration.
pretty much a reclamation project now. It could be that he's sufferedFrom the Yankee perspective, you're assuming some risks. Lidge is
from WBC, but if he struggles a bit in NY, you just know that people
will be talking about how he got gunshy after blowing a few playoff
games a la Schiraldi, Moore and Wohlers. Oswalt has accumulated a lot
of PAP in the last few years. And he's a small guy and it wouldn't
surprise me if he turns out to be another Javy Vasquez once in NY.
Which Ensberg do you see as the true measure? The one in 2005 or now?
I'd like to get back some sure bets if you're willing to trade ARod.
He's not costing them 27mil and that's why it makes no sense to dump
him. Besides, I think the Astros can get more value back if they
decide to offer up Oswalt this winter. I think they can get Andruw
Jones and perhaps Salty if they ask Schuerholz this winter. That gives
them far more financial flexibility.
BTW, Dan Patrick pointed out something that made sense. If Theo was
whining about how the Sox aren't the Yankees, how come they were that
close to picking up Clemens and his 22mil pro rated salary? I guess
8mil there wasn't worth having Abreu and Lidle for the stretch. (Theo
wanted Gillick to pick up 6-7mil from Abreu's season salary).
Good point from Patrick. I forgot about that whole Clemens thing. Did
Patrick mention the money was there for Clemens because it would have
been a shot at Steinbrenner and Yankee fans? IMO that's the #1
priority for Larry Little and Boy Theo.
As far as trading Alex Rodriguez goes I'm assuming that the Texas
money can be transferred. If not there is no chance of moving him. As
far as Rodriguez oking a trade we don't agree. I'm 100% convinced he
go in a second if Cashman found a deal he wanted except to Philly.
He'll just say I wanted to stay but they didn't want me. I didn't
think it would work to force them to keep me.
