Small got BOMBED?? Did I miss that?? Small pitched pretty well and got

have pitched another inning, maybe more.
For the most part, good pitchers do not get themselves into the
situations Small gets himself into.
It's not ALWAYS the case - El Duque and David Cone are examples of
pitchers who sometimes dug themselves into holes. But those pitchers
were both very good and both had a plan ("I am not letting this hitter
beat me; if he doesn't swing at Ball 4, I will go after the next guy")
Small is different - he gets into jams by having hitters crush the
ball off of him....last year, he got lucky. Bad/Mediocre pitchers
don't typically remain lucky for long.
Both of those guys could strike a batter out also. For most of his
Yankee career (let's forget his last season if possible), Cone was
among the league leaders in K rate and in WHIP. Hernandez was not
quite in the same class, and was not as consistent through his career
but he still was a much better pitcher than Small.
