Re: What relief pitcher am I thinking of

Those 2 are both filthy. Rodney has a great feel for changing speeds

Its understandable why they were so comfortable dealing Farnsworth last
season.

Leyland knows what he's doing with those guys. Jones won't be the
closer much longer. I was listening to the Tigers broadcast on the
radio last night and it was very interesting. Their radio guys are
pretty sharp - the were talking about how Rodney even with good
numbers last year couldn't be trusted because he was so inconsistent
but not this year so it's just a matter of time before Jones is a
spare part if not gone.

I'm not sure. I think he believes Jones is better than he is.

One other really interesting thing they kept
talking about was how last year when he was in Detroit they NEVER ONCE
saw Farnsworth lose his control like they did last night and that he
was throwing 4 or 5 mph lower then when he was Detroit.

Interesting. His delivery is different from pitch to pitch, so its no
wonder he doesn't know where the ball is going. Then, because he's not
around the plate, he gets squeezed, as he did last night and he has no
margin for error. It seems correctable, unless the sloppy mechanics
are due to injury, which seems unlikely given his velocity.

I guess he
understands the pressure he's supposed to be feeling? Didn't you think
Torre's quote about Cano and Melky was really odd? "They don't
understand the pressure they're supposed to feeling".

I didn't see that. I'm not sure I know what it means. Torre is
turning into Yoda.

You can't
complain about being tied for 1st place with RJ being horrible, the
entire outfield being injured plus Posada and now Jeter too. But it
seems Torre is a self fulfilling prophesy about this can't handle NY
nonsense/pressure. He keeps talking about it with A-Rod and now he
seems disappointed that the rookies aren't pressing more? Very
strange.....

To be tied for 1st given everything that's happened is great. I agree.
They can salvage Damon's season if they rest him and let him get
healthy. I'm starting to wonder, though, if Matsui might play more
games than Sheffield this year.
