You're entirely correct. On the other hand, you can't use that fact to
say he isn't a choker (which I know you know, too).

You're talking past each other a little here, but mostly because you
(Kenny) have defined your argument so narrowly that it loses real-world
application (which I think is what Neil was talking about). Sure, you
can't use the stats to say he's a choker, and in the absence of other
facts, you'd probably be better off playing the odds and concluding that
he's a good pitcher with randomly bad outings in the
post-season. However, he throws up before big games. That might be the
most important fact of all, because as Gary says, the players are
human. When you limit the argument to saying his stats can't show him to
be a choker, you're correct in a narrow sense, but you inavoidably come
off as a stat-nerd by discarding the human element, even if you're
justified in doing so by the terms of your argument.
