We all know the biggest problem last year was middle relief. I know they
picked up Farnsworth but that's just to replace Gordon. What is the plan
for middle relief? Do they just think there are extra starters, and they'll
do the middle relief? What happens then, when a couple starters are
injured? Or are some of these names I don't recognize on the pitching
roster supposed to be the saving grace? IMHO there will be no rings without
a better middle relief staff.
Once Dotel is healthy they'll be better off than they were. Dotel can
replace Gordon, and Farnsworth is a far better #3 option than they've
had in a while. If Myers is used properly, he'll be more useful as a
LOOGY than options they've had in recent years, but if he's allowed to
face righties, he could be a disaster. They also have some arms in the
minors who can contribute if given a chance.
Isn't it possible, maybe not probable, that acquisitions like Veras and
Rasner could be of help in middle relief?
