Is there really a reason to remake *any* film? Has there ever been a
remake that's been any good, much less an improvement on the original?

well goll dang - i'm scritchin' my head here...

 ok - i have a small observation...if it's a classic novel,
then it's ok to go ahead and attempt a remake, like it's ok
to perform a shakespeare play again, although here i would
say to remake West Side Story would be stooopid.

i'm thinkin' - books are probably fair game. some of the
Dracula remakes go neck & neck with the Bela Lugosi version.
that oldie Nosferatu silent film has a certain indelible
quality that filmmakers should never be attempt to reproduce.

and, as much as i am against capital punishment, making a movie out of some old stupid TV show should be punishable by a slow, agonizing death.

 ;-)

what about Vanilla Sky? she was in both versions. of course, you and i might like it for the Freewheelin' Bob Dylan references.
