I don't consider Pagan a "big bat" either. The question is, with
Pagan, Bay, Davis, Thole, Duda, Murphy, Reyes, and/or whomever is in
the lineup next year (if no major changes are made), how much more
does Wright need?

Let's see, Pagan had a decent year, Reyes was hurt again, Bay sucked,
Beltran was worthless and the rest didn't do much (though Davis may
progress, time will tell). So, there were guys to get on base (Pagan,
Reyes when he played), but no one worthy of mention hitting behind
him.

One good hitter behind him in the 4 hole would make him more
effective. The Mets scored 10 less runs than the Padres this
year......

They are sub .500 with most of these guys this year
(and with Beltran playing well for a short while), and Wright has
been
healthy, so who are you getting for Pagan that will help Wright lead
the team to 90 wins or more? Do your realize how unlikely it is for
a
sub .500 MLB team to turn things around with essentially the same
team
and get in the playoffs the next year? That's the point. Wright
will
get good offers, but I doubt Pagan will, and remember that you still
need a CF for 2012 and probably some of 2011, even if they keep
Beltran and let him just walk.
