Its part of my basic package too but its silly to think the Mets aren't
getting of that money. Cablevision is paying the Mets for the privilege
of showing SNY.
My point is, that people who are unhappy with the direction of this team
should not support it financially by buying tickets and gear. I have watched
and supported this team since 1962. If I didn't care about this team
(players), I wouldn't be as angry, frustrated and sick of how this
"organization" is being run. They are reactive. There is no minor league
plan. What is the mold for what a Met player should be? The Bay signing is
just another example. The park was built for speed, defense and pitching.
That's a cop out too. That whole phrase 'speed, pitching, and
defense' is a branded excuse to defend Omar's 'younger and more
athletic' crap he keeps talking about but ironically fails to deliver
on. 'Speed, pitching, and defense' is an outdated concept that is
only a component of the way the game is played today and by itself is
not a viable team concept. Trying to build a team that can compete in
the 1960's-1980's doesn't make any sense.
It's no different then all the years the Rockies spent trying to build
teams that won in Coors Field or all the years the Red Sox spent
getting players with swings tailored to Fenway Park. It doesn't
work.
Bay is none of that. As Jonathan has pointed out many times, Minaya is in
love with athletes. Is Chase Utley an athlete? But he is one hell of a
baseball player. If you want to spend your money on tickets and foam
fingers, enjoy. But it is part of the problem. The Woebegones will feel
empowered to continue their model for this team, as long as they are not hit
in their pocketbooks. Spurts of good years with more bad years than good.
And no long range plan.
