Article re the Mets' failure to trade for Victor Martinez

The following SNY article has a couple interesting points about the
Mets' failure to make the trade for Victor Martinez:

The writer thinks that Niese + either Brad Holt or Jenrry Mejia would
have got the trade done. Considering what the Indians ended up with,
the Mets could probably have done better than that.

To be honest, I never had a lot of faith in Niese and wouldn't have
hesitated on that account. But the best pitcher that went to the
Indians was a setup guy, probably not the caliber of Parnell, and the
other two did not look impressive (TJ surgery, relatively high ERAs).

This brings into question Omar's ability to negotiate. I think that a
reasonable deal presented to the Wilpons would have been considered,
as V.Martinez may have ended up saving them money in the long run, and
could have kept them in the running this year. (Read: Ticket sales)

I have trouble believing that the inept, inarticulate Omar that
floundered so badly with the press recently can suddenly become a
sharp, composed negotiator. And his recent history bears that out.

If the Wilpons needed to save money so badly, the time to do that
would have been the badly engineered Oliver Perez signing, not here.
