What do you think the Mets need??

Pitching or Offense?

I don't think the Mets are giving up F Martinez (I hope so!), but
Niese, probably Murphy and Church will be used as trading chips.
Considering for what the Braves got McLouth (LH, former All Star,
still 27yrs, CFer, signed for the next 3 years really cheap), could
the Mets get one of this players:

Pitching:
- Oswalt (lot of money left on his contract)
- C Lee
- E Bedard (FA after the season)

Offense:
- C Lee (same as Oswalt)
- Holiday (FA after the year, Boras is the agent)
- Hawpe (Coors field effect, respectable away numbers)
- Dunn (Wash will ask a lot from the Mets)
- Crawford (let Reyes heal and then have fast 1-2 punch)

Are there any other options that could be available? Seems like Peavy
doesn't want to play in the east, should they go for Oswalt (try to
keep him away from the Phillies)? Will Wash trade A Dunn in their own
division? I will gamble on Oswalt, but it's because I always like him
as a pitcher (throw hard, throw strikes, drop the big curveball).

Need to get healthy, right now things are not looking too good.

I have a different perspective. Either they have the talent they need to
win or they don't. If they don't, since they have the second highest
payroll in all of baseball
(http://www.getlisty.com/preview/2009-mlb-team-payrolls/), the problem
is not adding more expensive players and getting rid of less expensive
ones. The problem is an ineffective GM and perhaps manager (although I
am not sure how important managers are).

Omar decided to do the three year deal with Perez and was played like a
kazoo by Boras. He extended Delgado, putting trust in another older
player. He went after Putz big time. He has put this team together.

Frankly, at this price tag, IF THIS is the wrong collection of players,
I have no faith Omar will pick the right ones, just raise the cost of
doing business and saddling the next GM with a bigger problem.

If I were the owner, I would require Omar to win with what he has, at
least as far as payroll.
