You really have no proof of this yet you continue to spout off
about it (and spell Willie's name wrong, even though you seem to
be able to spell it correctly elsewhere). He did not turn things
around the day that Randolph left, it was several weeks later.
I think it is more likely that Manuel got him to do something
differently once he took over. Or maybe he finally recovered
from whatever was ailing him.
