Mets have a kick ass bullpen are about to upgrade their starting
pitching. But what do the Mets do about the offense? Reyes, Beltran,
Delgado and Wright are a great top four. What do they do with the
other four spots?
The 2008 Mets were second in the NL in runs scored. Let's hope they can
keep up the pace with the departures of Endy Chavez and Damion Easley.
It'll be tough. Chavez brought so much weak contact and Easley
brought so many warning track flyballs.
========================
Do you realize that this pair combined for 586 ABs -- literally a full
season for one player -- in 2008? And the Mets were still second in the
league in runs scored.
More remarkable then that, those 799 runs were the sixth best in Mets
history, behind only the '99, '06, '87, '00, and '07 teams. Of
course, this is a team that never scored 700 runs in a season, let
alone 800 until it was nearly 1/4 century old as a franchise.- Hide quoted text -

The problem is that we are so dependent on everyone staying healthy
and either repeating their 2008 performance or getting better. What
happens if Wright or Delgado go down with an injury? That effects the
entire lineup. What if Reyes or Beltran slump in 2009? That effects
the entire lineup. By adding more quality players its like insurance.
Add a Manny Ramirez, Adam Dunn, or Abreu, and then you no longer have
to worry so much about Reyes, Beltran, Wright and Delgado. Then you
would have five good players instead of four.
What happens if you die and come back to life? . . . Oh wait, we
already know that one!- Hide quoted text -

Nice try and trying to deflect the real issue.
What about signing Batman or Superman? What a lineup that would be. Or
one of the X-men to play leftfield? They wouldn't need to pay them
much either.
