Do you have any reason to believe a pitcher who often needs two innings to
get to his best stuff will do well in relief?

If he is willing to come at 5th starter pay they should sign him. He is a
good club house player and will give Neise the starts he needs in AAA to get
ready.
If Neise was ready then I would say let Martinez go. If Neise were traded
then they need to look for a long term solution. Signing Martinez to a 1
year deal buys the Mets the little time they need.
