Mets need a closer, and they need to replace Perez' production if the
y
lose him to free agency. Every other improvement, catcher, 2nd base,
etc. is a luxury. Last year, Mets finished 3 games out of first place
.
So if the Mets won four more games, they would have won the NL East..
Lets look at Billy Wagner. Before he got hurt he saved 27 games in 34
chances. That means he saved 79% of the games he closed. After he got
hurt and the Mets went to bullpen by committe, Aaron Heilman got 8
save chances and saved only 3 out of the 8. But what would have
happened if Wagner had stayed healthy and pitched in those eight
games? Well assuming he stayed healthy and remained consistent, Wagne
r
would have saved 6 of the 8 (.79x8), three more than Heilman did.
That's good enough to give the Mets a tie for the division. Since the
Mets had a better head to head record than the Phillies, Mets would
have won the NL East in 2008 had Wagner stayed healthy. So all we nee
d
is a good reliable closer.

I understood you had become a Phillies fan anyway...

Tried it, it didn't stick.

Hang in there, bro.- Hide quoted text -
