I think he will, not matter what he does for the next couple of weeks.
He has saved the season so far and will only cost $8 additional
million for next season. Unless the Mets win the WS and he is the MVP,
he will cost $12M = total $16M. But I doubt people will have an issue
if he helps the Mets wn the WS.
FA class is not good either, unless the Mets are willing to get into
the Texeira sweepstakes and compete with the Yankees for his
services.
Main issues for the Mets next year will be:
1) Starting pitcher - Should they re-sign Oliver Perez (27) or get
into CC Sabathia's (28) sweepstakes?
? ? - Pedro, Alou, El Duque, Perez = $32.8M
2) Bullpen: They need to fix it, period. Ayala and Stokes are good
stories, but they need some help in this area. And after Wagner news
today (and he will be in the last year of his contract), should they
go after F Rodriguez (28) and make Wagner a setup man?
3) Get rid of Castillo, even if they have to pay his contract.
Agreed with most of you points.
I wouldn't get in the Sabathia bidding war tho. He may be real good
for a couple of more years, who knows, but he is going to demand a
Santana type contract and someone with his body size makes me think he
might not last very long.
You know, I keep hearing this but is this scientifically proven or you
and others here just hate fat people? As I recall Fernando Venezuela
wasn't exactly too light either and he has no problem dominating for a
decade.
Oh by the way, the last time the Mets used "his body size won't work"
excuse was some stiff named Scott Kazmir. That worked out well huh?
