He wasn't a threat to world security, and was for the most part a stabilizing influence on the region. Now, that doesn't make him likable, good for Israel, or for the Kurds, but since you're obviously so hot on the whole strange bedfellows thing, I'll point out that he was, like King Farouk, as close to being "Our son-of-a-bitch" as we're going to find in the near future. I can promise you some of the people now gaining power in the region will be worse.
