Best Santana sceanrio will be if he exercises his no-trade clause and plays

I say sign Livan Hernandez, keep the farm. Martinez must not be included in
any deal.
Your forgetting if he is not traded, and goes FA. Yes all it will
take is money, but then more teams open up for his services. The Red
Sox, Yankees, & Mets, are merely the only ones in the deal now because
they have the prospects to land him. If he were to go FA, ANY team
with the money can land him. This opens up teams like the Dodgers,
Cubs, Mariners, Angels (even though they say they are looking
offense), Phillies, Giants, and White Sox. (These are the top ten
teams in payroll this coming year). Yet one other team that would be
the running is the Braves. The recent SI article indicated that their
new owners Liberty Mutual are looking to fluff their portfolio and
make the team more interesting to prospective buyers within 5 years.
That they will be looking to resell the team within that time, by
doing so they will raise payroll to land more name players in order to
sell.
Do you really want the possibility of him going to Atlanta? Remember
he's building a house in Florida. While none of the Florida teams can
afford him, Atlanta is the next closest team to his future house.
Call me paranoid if you want. The only reason the Mets are even in
the running at all is because the Yankees and Red Sox are stalling.
The best chance to land Santana, for the Mets, is NOW.
