You're quite an optimist if you think the Mets are just one player away. I would say at least 3, a starting pitcher, a reliever, and good bat somewhere in the line-up
Don't you think some could improve?
Like Gomez, more Pedro than last year.
Pelfrey seemed to be coming along.
Wright may develop into more clutch hitter.
Reyes settle down to consistency rather than chasing records.
Less likely: more from Alou and Delgado.
Obviously the team isn't quite set yet, but I like Schneider/Castro and Church/anybody RH hitter. A decent RH hitting 1B man needed.
Hodges proved you can do well with less than stellar players at non key defensive positions.
