You'd have your starter, but you'd have no shortstop. I think people
are underestimating how difficult replacing Reyes would be. You get
your pitcher, but now you have a gaping hole in the lineup and no
viable alternatives. I will maintain it is easier to find an ace
pitcher then it is to find a Jose Reyes. In the 45 year history of
the Mets, they have found many ace pitchers, but it is not a
coincidence that by the end of this year, Reyes will ALREADY own just
about every offensive record for a shortstop in Mets history. The
game is not all about pitching. You have to score and defend too, and
Jose Reyes is a huge part of the Mets ability to do so.
Its harder to find pitching that SSs and the Mets have been good with
ptiching development over the years, something they currently are no
any good with.
I'd sign AROD and trade Reyes for Santana in a heartbeat.
Ruben
I'd trade Reyes for Albert Pujols in a heartbeat. That's not likely
to happen either.
