We get Atlanta's first rounder (#18) and a supplemental pick
between
Round One and Round Two (projected to be #33).
So, if we don't sign any Type A free agents, the Mets will have
three
of
the first thirty-three picks in the next draft.
Here's hoping we draft well..................Mike

Thanks Glavine, this was your best play for the Mets.
Doesn't this depend on what other free agents the Braves sign
and/or lose? I did not think this was written in stone yet.
Bill
No it doesn't. What teams got for free agent losses is not
depended
on where the free agent's going. The Braves will get their own
compensations on their free agents, not the Mets.
Even if the Braves sign another type A free agent the Mets will get
their
#1 and the team losing a type A to the Braves will get their 2nd
pick.
Also the spot between rounds id not written in stone. The Braves
finished
with the 10th worst record in the NL so we should have pick 19 from
them,
we should get pick 25. The pick between rounds should be between 31
and
around 40.
are you sure about that?
i think it depends on which type A free agent is ranked higher.
If the Braves were to sign a higher ranked type A free agent,
the mets would only get the Braves second round pick (as well
as a sandwich pick.)
Geez, so by this logic the Mets loses Glavine to the Braves, and the
Braves gained another free agent and on virtue of that they retained
their first round pick. This actually makes sense to you?
It's two complete different things. What the Braves do will not
effect the compensation the Mets get from Glavine, which are the
Braves first round pick and another supplementary pick.
So what happens if the Braves sign another type A free agent, one that
is
ranked higher than Glavine? What team gets the Braves' first round
pick?
What does the other team that lost a FA get?
I'm not sure how that works but I don't think there are any Type A free
agents, who were offered arbitration, that rank higher than Glavine. If
their team did not offer arbitration, they do not get compensation. I
heard
the Mets assistant G.M. talking about the 1st round pick as if it were a
sure thing.
also, if the braves were getting a top 15 pick, as I remember,
it would have been protected and the Mets would have had to
select a second rounder, but it was nice of the braves to do
a little better than that and merit, I think. the 18th or 19th pick.
Well if Omar panics after ineptly not being able to pull off a trade for
the number one pitcher we need, and signs some FA, we can say good bye
to those picks on which you are counting.
H
Only certan FAs would require the Mets giving up their #1. I also don't
think there is any way they would have to give up picks that they gained
from the Braves. Also according to the list I have only Glavine and
Schilling were type A pitching FAs. If my list is correct their are no more
type A pitching FAs for the Mets to sign.

I haven't checked the list, but the only way the Mets do not get the
Braves #1 is if the Braves sign a higher ranked Type A free agent.
That would mean the other team they were signing the free agent away
from would get the Braves pick. I'm pretty sure that's not feasible
at this point given what is left on the market. For the Mets to lose
their #1, they would have to sign a Type A free agent, which again, I
do not think is even possible given what's left on the market.
