So again is he worth it? I'm going
with..."no".

Starting pitching is not an immediate concern for the Mets, and the
knowledge that we'll have a healthy Pedro ready to go in 5 weeks or
less
makes any trade for Buehrle a waste of resources.

It seems to me that if they're talking about Buerhle, it probably means
that
they're not confident about Pedro.

Also, if you operate under the assumption that they will need to replace
Glavine with a front-of-the-rotation pitcher, then you have to ask
yourself
where that pitcher is going to come from.

The Mets need a power-hitting left fielder, since Alou may be done for
the season. I'd rather have Jermaine Dye that Buehrle.

I wouldn't mind getting both of them.

Michael, the part of HB's post I agree with is that SP is not an
immediate need.

We really do have a serious need for a #1 or #2 pitcher if we want to
win a World Series or three. But just another pitcher for our rotation
may not help much now.

Having a guy like Santana, a spot on Carlos Z or Dontrelle W, would be a
great addition to our team this year or next. I would love to go into a
series with another team worried our #1 might pitch two games if they
let it get that far.

Frankly, if we are going to trade valuable commodities, I would prefer
to trade for what we actually need as opposed to an arm who might help
this year or next while we hope that Maine, Perez, and Humber develop
stuff and maybe we get the FA pitcher we really need.

Humber is toast -- he's been struggling in AAA this year, looked awful
in ST and he's damaged goods.

----------

To be fair, he is coming back from major arm surgery. He's 24 and has a
four-pitch repertoire. I'd give him another year or so before pronouncing
him toast.
