I'd be shocked if he hits there to start the season well enough to

a promotion to AA. They already pushed him and he couldn't translate
success from the SAL to St Lucie. Why should they repeat this
mistake?

Because it was a small sample size and because he was only 17 years
old.
Geez Louise, do you really think this kid has hit his high-water mark
already?

He has hit A high water mark for the moment, a point at which his
development has stalled.

You could have said the same thing about Milledge's cup-of-coffee debut
at
St. Lucie in 2004. The difference, of course, was that Milledge was two
years older than Martinez when he experienced his difficulties there.
Martinez was only 17; when Milledge was 17, he facing high school
pitchers,
not professionals several years older.

This is Milleges stats, much better than a 250 OBP

FSL 19 Nym A+ of
AB 81 AVe .235 OBP .319 Slug .432 OPS 751

Help me out: How is 81 AB a different sample size from 100 AB?

20 at bats, but why are you asking me that?

WHICH BTW is fairly similar to what he did when promoted to the Mets so my
guess is based on Milledges history is that he is going to be much better
going into this season with a near 400 OBP. BTW Milledge was 19, so is
that one year older than Martinez at the same age group?

Milledge was 19 (DOB: 4/85) when playing professional baseball in 2004.
Martinez was 17 (DOB:10/88) when playing professional baseball in 2006.

So it is a year and six months differnce. Meanwhile, both succeeded in
the SAL and Martinez alone has failed there. And I don't recall Milledge
being touted as a future all-star based on his cup of tea at Port St Lucie.
And if it did, I'd have given it great skeptism about it, although now as
much as I have about Martinez now. Let's hope your right.
