WTF happened?
He could be bitchy and tired form catching so much. He could be getting
ready for the return of Piazza. If I made half of what these people make it
would not mean anything.
How many of us have been at an important news event, and then read
about
it in the media? The story rarely reflects reality. The reporters
generally
find an angle to create a story, the reality be damned.
This is off topic, but back in the early 70s there was a Vietnam
demonstration,
that consisted of mostly seminars. WW I, WW II vets, college
professors and
others gave talks and speeches. In fact, some pro war speakers
talked, and it
was a very interesting day. One professor was so interesting that when
I went
to college, I specifically attended some of his classes.
I was in high school, and one of my friends took his 6th grade sister.
Turns out
a reporter talked to her. She was about the only child I saw there.
The headline the next day,
"Bubblegum Brigade Pops Bubbles for Peace". "I'm an old hand at this"
said
cute, Libby xxxx of xxx's class from xxx school. The reporter went up
to her
and asked if she had been to any other protests, and she said yes. So
the reporter
said, I guess you could call yourself an old hand at that. The
reporter created
a story that in no way reflected reality. That was a great lesson for
me.
I'm sure ball players find their comments and stories twisted, and they
are
shocked and offended, as reporters create stories. They can't just
change the
games, since we see them, but when they have players to themselves,
they
have a free will to create distortions. It sells.
LaDuca has done an incredible job for the Mets. Yes, I'm a great fan
of Piazza, and
I would have loved to have seen him stay. That said, it is only fair
to judge
LaDuca on his own merits. He walked into the media capital of the
world,
the most demanding fans, took the toughest position on the field, and
has
done an all star job. He deserves nothing but praise. Frankly, I
didn't
expect it, and I'm delighted he proved me wrong.
Think about this every time you read a disparaging story about a
player. Which
will sell, an accurate analytical description, or a scandal?
