Mora was traded in 2000. He hit 8 HRs in 2000 and 7 HRs for Baltimore in

15, 27, and 27 in the next four years. In hindsight it looks like a bad
deal, but who knew in 2000 that Mora could or would develop that kind of
power.
Mora for Bordick was a one year rent a better fielding shortstop for a
team that went to the WS so it is hard to fault Phillips on both sides of
that deal.
The Mets got Mike Bordick from the Orioles for Melvin Mora, Mike Kinkade,
Lesli Brea and Pat Gorman. 2 warm bodies, one marginal player
Kinkade is the marginal player?
and one all-star. Mora was a useful and popular player for the Mets at
the time of the trade. He had obvious upside.
He was, what, 28 at the time of the deal? Come on. The guy had played in
the PCL and couldn't slug over .400 there.
No one knew he had THIS
much upside, but it was there.
Does Melvin like flax seed oil?
It was, at the time, a bad trade. It is
now a horrible trade.
No, it made perfect sense at the time. The idea that Mora has since
exceeded expectations doesn't detract from the value Bordick brought as a
real shortstop for a pennant race.
