Darling and Cohen referred to the Red's second baseman and his crticism
of the gametime decision. They insisted a game was a game and Randolph
had made up his mind about the Pitt game. But its not that simple. That
game meant more to the fans and more to the players. It had to. It was
the measruing stick and the Mets failed in spectacular manner courtesy
of their coach. It was the wrong time to make a stand with the GM.
And that series may have proved to the played that they were
pretenders. Nothing like a total flop to the dregs of the National
league to send a message back to the manager.
