I'm almost depressed reading this...

Now the pitchers that will face the Braves are Martinez (Friday),

Now if they could only place Beltran on the DL so they can have a full
roster until he is ready, it would be nice for the team!!

SAN FRANCISCO - Brian Bannister (strained right hamstring) hopes he can
pitch Tuesday, but the Mets will start taking a close look at Triple-A
Norfolk's rotation to fill any potential void. GM Omar Minaya named
Darren Oliver - who picked up yesterday's win in relief - as a strong
possibility, but Willie Randolph suggested it's more likely a Tides
starter would be summoned.
What's wrong with Heilman on Tuesday? Randolph pitched him last
night, so he'd be "on schedule" for Tuesday.
If Bannister can't go, the Mets would have four options: John Maine
(1-3, 2.62 ERA), Jeremi Gonzalez (1-2, 3.52), Jose Lima (2-2, 6.00) and
Yusaku Iriki (1-1, 2.70). Maine, obtained with Jorge Julio for Kris
Some choice...Maine still looked like he needed more minor league time
last month, Gonzelez and Lima look like stiffs at this point, and
isn't Iriki yet another soft tosser?
Benson, is the only one of those pitchers on the 40-man roster, meaning
no one would have to be exposed to waivers to promote him.
Randolph ruled out Aaron Heilman, saying: "I like the way our bullpen
looks right now."
Thanks a lot, Willie...
DIAZ LOOMS: With Carlos Beltran dealing with a lingering hamstring
injury, Victor Diaz is likely to be in Atlanta when the Mets open a
series tomorrow, regardless of which player, Beltran or Bannister, lands
on the DL. If Beltran plays tomorrow, Diaz (hitting .179 with the Tides)
would figure to return to Norfolk when a starting pitcher would be
activated Tuesday. Minaya said the Mets would be "conservative" with
Beltran, so it sounds like he could be placed on the DL. Beltran was on
deck as a pinch-hitter in the 11th, but was called back when the Mets
grabbed a two-run lead. Randolph and Beltran said it wasn't a decoy,
though the preference was for him to go unused so any 15-day DL stint
could be backdated to last Friday, when he last played.
Hell yeah, I'd promote a guy batting under the Mendozza line to help
me in an important series. Seriously, isn't Milledge doing pretty
well at Norfolk? I say 'Bring him up, and screw the option'.
ZAM DELAYED: Victor Zambrano is being pushed back as far as the Mets
can. Steve Trachsel, who limited San Francisco to one run in six innings
Tuesday night, starts Sunday in Atlanta, while Zambrano will wait until
Monday - eight days after his last start. Trachsel will attend a wife's
The only good news...at least the Mets brass are starting to lose
confidence in him. Hopefully, he'll be able to compete with Julio for
that all-important mop-up relief role, when we're either 10 runs up or
relative's funeral tomorrow, but expects to arrive at Turner Field in
time for the series opener. ... Carlos Delgado made a splash, homering
into McCovey Cove for the second time in his career. Delgado's ninth
homer tied him with Dave Kingman (1976) for the Mets record for April
homers. Delgado was intentionally walked twice in extra innings. ...
Michael Tucker signed a minor-league contract. ... Julio Franco, 47,
stole a base, but he's not the oldest to do so. Arlie Latham of the
Giants stole a base at 49 in 1909.
This brings me to my last rant of the morning...I like Franco as much
as anyone on the list here, but are we going to have to listen and
read about him being the oldest guy to get HBP, hit into a fielder's
choice, or fart in a player's uniform FOR THE NEXT TWO YEARS??? I get
it, media, he's an old dude, NOW MOVE THE F*** ON!!!
