<<Pretty sure that I'll be wasting my time by looking at some draft
choices
from MLB teams. For sure you won't post any statistical evidence that
supports your point and will try to twist the argument. At the end you
will
response the same way you just did, naming HOF players that are one in
a
billion, to try to make a point.
Of course you won't mention Mike Piazza, Arbert Pujols, Vladimir
Guerrero,
Pedro Martinez, David Ortiz, Randy Johnson, Curt Schilling, John
Smoltz,
Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine, Dontrelle Willis, Brad Penny, AJ Burnett,
Bernie
Williams, Mariano Rivera, Jeff Bagwell, Jeff Kent, Roy Oswalt, Andy
Pettitte, Scott Rolen, Edgar Renteria, Jim Edmonds, Rich Harden, Tim
Hudson,
Edgar Martinez, John Olerud, Bobby Abreu, Jim Thome, Johan Santana,
Miguel
Cabrera, who were never first round choices but are either HOF players,
All
Stars or playing regularly at the ML level.>>
How many of these are not eligle for the draft being from a foriegn
country? HoF'er are one in a billion from the 1st round? How full of
it are you? Instead of wasting all this bandwidth below, why don't you
just point to the draft results on the baseball alamac sight and see
for yourself who many stars are pulled from the draft.
Whatever percent of allstars are coming out of the 1st round of the
draft, for sure LESS are coming from the 2nd and 3nd rounds.
BTW - Olerud was drafted TWICE, as was Clemens. There is probably a
story for his low draft selection.
Here, have fun and pluck through it.

If you want to argue that the draft in baseball is not a guaranteed
thing like the NBA nad the NFL, I'm all with you. If you want to ignor
the impact the draft has on distributing talent, your on your own. The
draft nearly immediately conributed to parity in the Major League's by
preventing the Yankees from plucking every Dimaggio and Mantle that
they wanted just by throwing money at them.
the surest way to build a talent base is draft often, draft high and
scout scout scout.
