Please explain.

I have tried to understand Willie's thinking as of late, but I just can't.
So basically I decided to ask you guys because you may have the answer and
the reason why Willie is making moves. Let's take last night game as an
example:
1) Decision 1: Bat Cairo (or Matsui) in the #2 spot of the lineup - I mean,
did I missed something?? Is Cairo really getting on base that often and I'm
just missed it?? Let's see:
Avg Obp Slg Ab
Cairo .246 .294 .327 272
Matsui .232 ..283 .309 220
Is there is something in the numbers that indicates that either Matsui or
Cairo should be battling second in the lineup? The second spot in the order
through the year should get more ABs than the #5 right? So what's the logic
of giving Cairo and Matsui more ABs than Wright? How about battling Beltran
second:
2004 Avg Obp Slg Ab
#2 .280 .386 .563 432
#3 .236 .319 .515 165
2003 Avg Obp Slg Ab
#2 .370 .438 .722 54
#3 .263 .351 .464 278
2002 Avg Obp Slg Ab
#2 .284 .364 .527 169
#3 .269 .336 .509 405
Please let me know what's the logic of no battling: Reyes, Beltran, Wright
and Floyd at the top of the lineup.
2) Decision 2: Bat either Woodward or Jacobs in front of Diaz - Again, did I
missed something? I understood Willie battling Piazza in front of Wright for
a while. Mike is HOF who has done so much for the team and he could carry a
team with a hot streak. Even with a declining Piazza he was such a force
that pitchers would be careful with him. But Woodward? Jacobs?
Avg Obp Slg Ab
Diaz .260 .348 .500 192
Woodward .294 .343 .413 160
Jacobs .281 .395 .719 32
Any reason to justify why Woodward and Jacobs should hit in front of Diaz?
Is this based on Jacobs 32 ML ABs? Is Woodward a guy who can hit mistakes
out of the park? BTW, a link to Decision #1: Why isn't Woodward playing
second base over Cairo and Matsui?
3) Decision 3: Why Zambrano is pitching during the WC race while Trachsel is
pitching simulated games - Willie talks about how loyal he is to his players
and how he wants to give them opportunity. So how loyal has he been with
Trachsel? The Mets most consistent pitcher over the past 4 years? Is he
loyal with Zambrano because he doesn't want to face more Kazmir questions
with the media?? There has to be something.
4) Decision 4 (yesterday's game): Why not PH for Zambrano in the 5th
inning?? - After watching Victor struggle through the 4 innings, watching
the DTrain on the mound for Florida, still a 2-1 game, the Mets with a
runner on second base with 1 out.....why not PH for Zambrano. There is no
excuse anymore about saving the bullpen, they just add it 3 pitchers to the
roster on Thursday. Heilman was ready, Victor struggled, 2-1 game vs Fla,
the WC race, a 5 year old kid could have made a decision. Of course Willie
decided to leave him in there then in the 6th he quickly put the team in a
hole, runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs. The rest is history.
5) Decision 5 (yesterday's game): Mientkiewicz PH for Woodward in the 9th -
The Mets have the best PH in the game this year (Anderson and Offerman),
last opportunity for the Mets to score, trailing by 2 runs, runner on first
and the PH is Mientkiewicz?? Helloooo, he decided to use a player just
coming off the DL instead of his two best PHs??
Some people say players lose ballgames, well Willie just showed you last
night how a manager can lose a game for their team. Hopefully next year he
will reflect and go back to this year experience. Let's hope he learns from
his mistakes because certainly he is helping a struggling team dig him a
deeper hole very quickly.
SS Reyes
CF Beltran
3B Wright
LF Floyd
RF Diaz
1B Mientkiewicz/Jacobs
2B Woodward/Cairo/Matsui
C Castro
Is that so difficult to figure out?
