Yankees have signed Hiroki Kuroda and traded Miguel Montero for 23
year old Mariner Michael Pineda.

Any suggestion that the Red Sox can now just stand pat is ludicrous..

Yeah but they had to give up Montero.  You don't expect the Sox to
give up Lars do you ?

Unfortunately....no, I don't

The Montero/Pineda deal is big talent for big talent. Time will tell
who comes out the best. The Mariners, playing with a DH (most of whom
couldn't hit) scored fewer runs than any team in baseball. That took
some doing. Now they are saying "Help me Jesus!". The guy is a good
enough hitter that their prayers may be answered. The Yankees got a
talented young starting pitcher, but the value they gave up to get him
shouldn't be forgotten. It won't be if Pineda starts losing some 3-2
games and other low scoring ones.

The Yankees scored 867 runs last year. I can't imagine trading a
kid ,who had 69 PA last year, will turn them into a team that will be
scraping for offense. Montero is an outstanding prospect but, at
least for this year, he only added to an already elite offense.

Kuroda is a good pitcher and solid. But he is 36 and it could be
sayanora if he gets arm problems. Meanwhile if you see C.C., buy him a
pizza. Let's see if we can get him over 300 pounds if he isn't already
there. That much weight has to have an effect on him eventually. How
about 2012 being the time?

In short the Yankees gave up a lot for Pineda who finished poorly last
year. Signing Koroda to a one year deal was a good risk for them.
Still with pitchers, you never know.

I see your 'Rose Colored Glasses' finally came in the mail.
