I don't see this as a bad hire considering the circumstances of last
year. His record was pretty good considering Mets competed vs a
better divisional rival in Atlanta , he won't take shit from the
players, he'll take some of the heat from the press off the players,
and reports are that he was among the first managers to utilize some
advanced statistics to gain an edge. I always thought one of his
strengths in NY was handling his pitching staff.

Still the impression is there that this was not Cherington's choice
and he doesn't have a lot of authority.

So what? Seriously. What does that really matter in the big picture? Some will give him credit...or blame. Others will choose to direct either towards LL. Won't really matter to anyone who counts. Especially if they win. This is a great job. A lot of guys would LOVE to trade places with Ben. He's been around the team long enough to know the exact lay of the land. So he has a dominant boss. Imagine working for Steinbrenner.

I look at this Bobby V hire as a sort of stopgap. Could be a wild ride. Should be fun. What...Lamont would have been better? How long would he have been around at his age? I'll bet Bobby is here a couple of years. The team needed a shake up. This will sure do that. Then maybe in a couple of years they can get one of the two guys I think they (and we) always preferred. Farrell or Maddon.
