Years ago I read a Scientific American article on hospital trauma
wards. There was a plot of automobile fatalities per capita age and
sex. For women, a smooth curve, more or less, I think with a slight
downward trend toward middle age and with an increase in old age. For
men, similar except a HUGE spike between about age 16 and 22.. Amazed,
I talked to a friend who is a professional statistician, knows
actuarial methods. He told me....(paraphrase) "The effect applies
across the board through different cultures and ethnicities and
applies not only to automobiles, but motor cycles, guns, you have it.
Can't be environmental, has to be gender intrinsic".
So I call this the "Young Guys are Crazy as Hell and cannot be trusted
with dangerous apparatus outside of a controlled (military)
environment." effect.
So, it is clear. To save huge numbers of lives:
1. Women drivers licensing laws remain as they are.
2. Men don't get a license until age 24.
Clearly a good idea??? Whaddya think?
the young drivers get into accidents because they are rookie drivers, making
them wait will just delay the time when they become rookie drivers. its not
age its experience. better to let 12 year olds drive so by the time they are
17 they'll have 5 years experience and be better drivers.
